General Election Mid-Morning Update
Jackson, Miss.—As of 10:00 am, the Secretary of State’s Office reports the Election proceeding smoothly. No wait times have been reported. The Agency has received approximately 145 phone calls concerning today’s Election. Most of the calls received by the Agency have been regarding minor machine issues and general election questions.
Issues have been reported in:
Harrison County: Issues regarding electronic pollbooks. The use of electronic pollbooks is a county decision. The Secretary of State’s Office has spoken with the Harrison County Circuit Clerk’s Office who is working on those issues.
Washington County: The Secretary of State’s Office has received complaints the county decision to disable printers on voting machines has caused some voter confusion. However, all votes are being cast and counted.
Hinds County: Our Agency has received numerous calls regarding the Hinds County DS 200 Precinct Scanner. There were reports the precinct scanner was down at Eudora Welty Library and Casey Elementary School.
“The General Election is running smoothly,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “Our most frequently asked question is ‘Where do I vote?’ on Election Day. We have seen a significant decrease in those calls since we implemented our new polling locator at www.sos.ms.gov/pollingplace.”
Polls are open until 7:00 pm today.
