Second Amendment tax fee weekend set for Sept. 5-7

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 3, 2014

Mississippi creates ‘Second Amendment Weekend,” no taxes on guns and ammo on Sept. 5-7

JACKSON, Mississippi — Mississippi will remove its 7 percent state sales tax on guns, ammunition, archery equipment and some hunting supplies the first weekend of each September.

Gov. Phil Bryant on Wednesday signed Senate Bill 2425. It becomes law July 1.

The “Second Amendment Weekend,” without the tax, begins on the first Friday of each September and runs for three days, through Sunday. This year, it will be Sept. 5-7.

National Rifle Association executive director Chris Cox says the tax holiday “pays tribute to Mississippi’s hunting heritage” and the right to bear arms.
