Mississippi Senators Cochran, Wicker announce extra $34 million in work for Columbus area

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 31, 2014

Cochran brings home the pork — from Thailand

Sen. Thad Cochran’s opponent in the June 3 GOP primary, state Sen. Chris McDaniel, has been hammering the longtime senator because Cochran brings federal projects to the home state. “The age of approprations is over,” goes the campaign slogan.

I haven’t heard whether the McDaniel camp would be in favor of getting pork from other governments, though.

Meanwhile, Cochran and Sen. Roger Wicker in a joint news released Saturday said the Department of the Army has approved a $34.0 million contract modification to EADS North America for the procurement of six UH-72A Lakota helicopters for the Royal Thailand Army. All work will be performed in Columbus, Miss., with an estimated April 2015 completion date.

In June 2013, Cochran and Wicker, signaled their support for Defense Security Cooperation Agency approval of the government of Thailand’s request to purchase Lakota helicopters manufactured in Mississippi.
