Mississippi Democratic Party Chair @RickeyCole pushing for minimum wage hike

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 20, 2014

Mississippi Democratic Party Chair in Meridian

Meridian, Miss. The chairman of Mississippi’s Democratic party says it’s time to raise the state’s minimum wage, and pay women the same as men.

Rickey Cole stopped by WTOK Wednesday to talk about the mission of the state’s Democratic party. Cole says a woman in Mississippi makes 75 cents to a man’s dollar, and he also wants to see an increase in the $7.25 minimum wage. Cole says the key is to get more Democrats in office.

“We believe that when Democrats are elected to public office, we serve the interest of all the people,” said Rickey Cole. “Economic interests ought to be front and center. We can disagree on social issues, but what really matters is what puts food on the table, what adds to the family’s quality of life. Public education, fair pay, good health coverage are three major components of quality of life in Mississippi that haven’t been given the attention that they deserve.”
