Former DMR Executive Director Bill Walker admits he’s guilty of conspiracy

Bill Walker, former executive director of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, intends to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the government in a federal corruption case, he has notified the U.S. District Court.

Walker acknowledges that he conspired with his son, Scott Walker, and then-DMR manager Tina Shumate in 2011 to commit fraud by transferring money from DMR accounts to the Land Trust for the Mississippi Coastal Plains to buy property in which the Walkers had a financial interest. Shumate has pleaded not guilty in the case, which was scheduled for trial June 2.
