U.S. Senate Candidate Chris McDaniel Responds to Sen. Cochran’s Vote for Omnibus

Laurel, MS—Chris McDaniel, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Mississippi, today criticized 36-year incumbent Senator Thad Cochran for voting for a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill that obliterates bipartisan budget constraints and increases the federal deficit. (RC #13, 01/16/14)
On Tuesday, McDaniel urged Senator Cochran to vote against the $1.1 trillion spending bill and do the fiscally responsible thing for Mississippi taxpayers.
Once signed by President Obama, the $1.1 trillion omnibus will formalize a spending agreement based on the Ryan-Murray Budget Act of 2013. It increases federal spending $63 billion above the budget caps set by the Budget Control Act of 2011.
“The federal government is already more than $17 trillion dollars in debt,” McDaniel stated. “I had hoped Senator Cochran would have provided the leadership so badly needed in Washington by voting against this massive spending increase. I’m disappointed that Senator Cochran has yet again voted for more deficit spending, just as he has done over his 41 years in Washington.
“In addition,” McDaniel continued, “this budget includes benefit cuts to our veterans who put their lives in harm’s way to defend our freedoms. Mississippi taxpayers and our veterans deserve better.”
