Economic challenges remain in state

Education and roads remain impediments to Mississippi’s growth, according to the head of the Mississippi Economic Council, or MEC.

Blake Wilson, whose organization promotes business growth in the Magnolia State, spoke Thursday to the Southaven Rotary Club at the Holiday Inn.

Wilson and other representatives at the meeting touted the Council’s Pathway to Progress, aimed to promote goals the state should have for improving its standing in economic development and to better the lives of its residents.

While DeSoto County’s schools rank among the best in the state, Wilson said education as a whole in Mississippi remains an issue that needs to be addressed.
