News Alert – ‘Jobless rate vastly higher for low-income’

Government employment data shows the employment disparity between high-income families and low-income families is wider than it’s ever been.

Figures analyzed by The Associated Press, and included in a report released Monday, show the unemployment rate for households earning more than $150,000 annually is 3.2 percent. Unemployment rates for families making less than $20,000 is 21 percent.

The gap is the widest it’s been since officials began tracking income-specific employment rates a decade ago. It’s something Christy Strawbridge has seen widen since 2008, when the national recession started taking hold.
