During a stop in DeSoto County on Wednesday, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves reflected on the nation’s somber anniversary of the 911 attacks of a dozen years ago.
“Today is a special day to remember,” Reeves said to a gathering of the Rotary Club of Hernando. “We all remember where we were on 911,” Reeves said, adding that at the time of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, he helped manage a large portfolio from his Jackson office and conducted business with a firm that traded on Wall Street. That trading company was located on the 95th, 96th and 97th floors in the second tower that was struck by a hijacked airliner on that fateful day.
“My friends and many others in that firm were trapped and didn’t make it out in time,” Reeves said.
Paying attention to the armed police officers and security detail that flanked Reeves during his address to the local Rotarians, Reeves noted that hundreds of firefighters, police and other personnel also perished in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.
