U.S. decision on Syria a complex one, says Rep. Gregg Harper

The growing speculation over what to do in Syria will be decided within the next few weeks as Congress and the White House discuss their options.

On Monday, Rep. Gregg Harper said Congress needs to look at what’s in the best interest for the United States as lawmakers return to Capitol Hill next week to discuss Syria.

With more reports of alleged chemical weapons being used by Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces against civilians in the middle eastern country, U.S. lawmakers are now tasked with deciding what actions, if any, will be taken overseas.

“The first thing that comes to mind is the thought that anybody who would use chemical weapons on civilians, including children, is something that’s beyond comprehension and something that concerns us all,” said Harper.

Harper, along with the rest of Congress, is set to return to Washington, D.C. on Sept. 9 to discuss plans. The second-term congressman said he will be going over classified information the first day back.

“We’ll go back and look at classified information, attend classified briefings and we’ll come to some great understanding of the evidence and what action we might need to take.”
