Editorial: Roger Wicker helps forge compromise in Senate

We commend Roger Wicker for bringing a bit of bipartisanship back into the United States Senate.

Along with fellow Republican John McCain, Wicker was praised by Democrats this week for helping avoid “the nuclear option” from being invoked.

Their efforts ended Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s plan to change filibuster rules, which would have made it easier for the Senate and its Democratic majority to approve President Barack Obama’s nominees for executive-branch posts.

“The nuclear option” would reduce the number of votes needed to confirm the president’s nominees from 60 to 51.
