Sen. David Blount – Medicaid expansion is a good deal for Mississippi
Should the state spend $7 million to receive $570 million?
That’s the question the Legislature faced last week when voting whether or not to expand Medicaid in Mississippi. The governor and a majority of legislators said “no.”
From now on, Mississippi will face a similar decision every year because of the Affordable Care Act (sometimes called “Obamacare”). Following a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, states have the right to decide whether or not to expand Medicaid, with the federal government paying 100 percent of the costs for the first three years.
