MDA demands snail-mail delivery of records request

The Mississippi Development Authority has responded to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development criticisms about Port of Gulfport job creation and tracking.

On Thursday, Sun Herald requested a copy of that report, but MDA employees said the newspaper would have to submit a written request for public records that would not be filled until MDA had received the request by U.S. mail or hand delivery to its Jackson office.

MDA public relations manager Jeff Rent said the state agency’s policy also requires receipt of payment before the records are delivered. Once costs are estimated, payment also will have to be sent by mail.
