Geoff Pender – No end game in sight for session
Do what we say, or poor old sick Aunt Tillie gets kicked out of the nursing home, and Junior won’t get his dialysis treatments.
That’s a heck of a political and policy position to hold, but that’s where both sides are in the standoff that has the state Medicaid program in limbo, set to shut down July 1. Neither has much else in the way of leverage at this point, other than scaring the bejeezus out of hundreds of thousands of Aunt Tillies and their families and hoping the other side blinks.
The propaganda campaigns should start very soon.
Both sides are trying to figure out how to make the fear and loathing work in their favor. In fact, that appears to be about all they are doing. Other states have been working on alternatives, negotiating with the federal government on Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion. Not here. That wouldn’t be the Mississippi way.
