Hearing will be next week for Miller’s confirmation as DMR chief

Jamie Miller could face hours of questioning from the state Senate Ports and Marine Resources Committee during his confirmation hearing at the Capitol next week.

It looks like the hearings will happen Wednesday, but so far there hasn’t been much evidence of any real opposition among lawmakers to Miller’s nomination by Gov. Phil Bryant to head the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. Still, some issues from Miller’s time in Washington could come up. Miller, 40, was U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo’s chief of staff until he left in December after a little more than a year to return home to Gulfport. He had also served eight months as the freshman congressman’s deputy chief of staff.

A raucous party Palazzo’s staffers held, and federal workers baby-sitting for the Palazzos and helping them move, both made news while Miller was in Washington running Palazzo’s office. Those issues were raised in stories by Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper.
