Mississippi could end up buying Cat Island
Mississippi could soon own Cat Island.
Bills are moving through the Legislature to give the state the authority to use money from a fund to buy a roughly five-mile section of the island in the Gulf of Mexico off the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Cat Island is part of the barrier islands of Petit Bois, Horn, East and West Ship of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
“Cat Island is the last remaining island,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, who is part of the team spearheading the effort ot buy the island. “It’s a phenomal island.”
