Norwood defeats Crisler in runoff for Senate District 28 seat

Sollie B. Norwood was elected the newest member of the Mississippi Senate on Tuesday and will serve out the term of the late state Sen. Alice Harden.

Norwood will be sworn into office by the end of the week.

Voters in Senate District 28 went back to the polls Tuesday for a special election runoff between former Jackson Councilman Marshand Crisler and Norwood, a former Jackson School Board member .

Of 2,455 votes cast, Norwood garnered 54 percent and Crisler 45 percent, according to unofficial returns.

Norwood said both campaign teams worked hard to get supporters back to the polls with no other race on the ballot.
