Cindy Hyde-Smith pushes for funding to overhaul coliseum
The too-steep stairs, the long bathroom lines, the sometimes jarring acoustics — these problems at the Mississippi Coliseum could soon be fixed if the issue of funding doesn’t get in the way.
Agriculture Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith is pushing for the Legislature to help fund the biggest renovation project that the coliseum has ever seen.
It’s unclear at this point whether funding could be secured through a multi-million dollar bond bill or some other means.
But if it happens, the renovation would help boost the ideally located arena’s ability to play a larger role as a major revenue generator for both the city of Jackson and the state.
