Baker named Assistant Secretary of State, Securities Division

Jackson, Miss. – Cheryn Baker has rejoined the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office as Assistant Secretary of State of the Securities Division.

“Cheryn is already well-versed in the functions and operations of this Agency,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “She has a wealth of expertise to bring to the Secretary of State’s Office. There is no doubt her transition back will be seamless to this Office and the clients we serve.”

Prior to her return to the Agency, Baker acted as Corporate Counsel to Hancock Bank in Gulfport. She previously served as Assistant Secretary of State of the Policy and Research Division.

Some of Baker’s responsibilities include overseeing the regulation of the securities professionals and the sale of securities in the State of Mississippi and working with federal and State prosecuting authorities to investigate violators of the State’s securities laws.

A Lexington, MS native, Baker graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver College of Law.

“I am very excited to be back in Jackson and to be working for Secretary Hosemann in the Securities Division. I am looking forward to helping protect Mississippi investors and to serve the public once again.”

Baker is active in many legal, civic and community groups, currently serving as Commissioner on the Mississippi Board of Bar Commissioners, a Commissioner on the Uniform Law Commission, and as a member of the Mississippi Bar Women in Profession Committee. She is also a co-State liaison to the American Bar Association Committee on Corporate Laws, Vice President-Elect of the Mississippi Corporate Counsel Association, and served on the board of the Child Abuse Prevention Center. Other activities include the Mississippi Women Lawyers Association, Harrison County Bar Association and the Capital Area Bar Association.

Cheryn and her husband Chris reside in Brandon, Mississippi.
