MRP – Don’t forget who to vote for in judicial races

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 6, 2012

Dear fellow Republican,

When you head to the polls tomorrow, pay special attention to the judicial races on the ballot. These races often go unnoticed, but their importance cannot be overstated. In short, supporting a fair Court is necessary for our state’s business climate. We’ve fought hard to elect fair Justices and we cannot turn around now.

That is why the Mississippi Republican Party is supporting Chief Justice Bill Waller in the Central District, Justice Mike Randolph in the Southern District, and Josiah Coleman in the Northern District.

Justices Waller and Randolph each have a distinguished record as fair and impartial judges. They do not believe that it is up to the Supreme Court to write the law, but to interpret it. I know that Josiah Coleman has a similar judicial philosophy.

The balance on the Court is at risk if any of these candidates lose tomorrow. Their opponents are all linked to trial lawyers and years of progress in the state could be lost if any are elected.

We all remember the “jackpot justice” headlines from around the country. I remember the long nights and constant battles, but we were finally able to pass tort reform legislation several years ago. That was a difficult fight, but well worth it.

We are also supporting E.J. Russell, who represents District 2 on the Court of Appeals. Judge Russell was appointed by Governor Haley Barbour in 2011. Like the Supreme Court, we must maintain balance in lower Courts as well.

The state of Mississippi is better off due to the improvement of our business climate. We must not allow this to be jeopardized.

Please join the Mississippi Republican Party in supporting Bill Waller, Mike Randolph, Josiah Coleman, and E.J. Russell.

Sincerely,

Brandon Payne
