Reeves, Gunn, Baker & Hopson to receive Legal Reform Awards for AG Sunshine Law

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 24, 2012

RELEASE:

On Wednesday, October 24th, Mississippi State leaders will receive the 2012 State Legislative Achievement Award at the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform’s (ILR) 13th Annual Legal Reform Summit. Award recipients include Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves, Speaker of the House Philip Gunn, State Representative Mark Baker and State Senator Briggs Hopson.

The Institute for Legal Reform is presenting the Mississippi leaders with the award for their work in helping to pass “AG sunshine” legislation that was enacted in May of this year. The “AG sunshine” legislation promotes transparency and caps contingency fees when the state attorney general, a state agency, or elected officials hire outside private plaintiff attorneys to represent the state. This new law provides a much-needed framework for a more open and fair process in the state’s use of contingency fee contracts.

The annual Legal Reform Awards honor individuals and organizations whose outstanding work has contributed to making America’s civil justice system simpler, fairer, and faster for everyone.
