Mayor Davis pledges to fight Pickering over misused money

Pickering said a code section of state law does not allow a city to pay the debt of a city official like Davis. “We’ve waited long enough, Mr. Mayor.”

“I agree,” Davis said in response.

However, in a press conference of his own after Pickering’s entourage had left city hall, Davis was less civil toward Pickering and accused the State Auditor of “grandstanding.”

“I’m glad the State Auditor finally found the time to return the money to the City of Southaven,” Davis said. “As far as the pay goes, he’s entitled to his opinion. We’ll be filing a temporary restraining order which will allow the pay to continue.”

Davis said he expected some type of action from Pickering but was caught off guard by Pickering’s personal appearance.
