Mississippi auditor ‘covering the bases’ in recovering funds from Davis
Mississippi State Auditor Stacey Pickering’s office said Wednesday it filed a civil lawsuit against Southaven Mayor Greg Davis in addition to garnishing his city paycheck to ensure it had covered all the bases in recovering funds Davis was ordered to repay.
Pickering made a surprise visit to Southaven’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Tuesday night to reimburse the city about $96,000 collected to date from Davis and to outline efforts to recover a remaining balance of more than $70,000 owed by Davis. Those efforts include garnishing Davis’s city paycheck and filing suit against him in Hinds County, where Pickering is based in Jackson.
“It is not that we chose one option or the other option to recover the debt,” Pickering spokeswoman Lisa Shoemaker said Wednesday of the dual approach. “It is just that all these options are what we have to recover this money, and we are doing everything possible to recover the $73,000.”
