InJustice Producer calls out Clarion Ledger for inaccuracies

I’m writing in regards to a recent story by Jimmie E. Gates (“Film shines spotlight on lawsuit history,” June 6), in which I’m quoted about the film I executive produced, “InJustice the Film.”

As the story correctly points out, numerous Mississippians – including Clarion-Ledger investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell – are featured in the film, a portion of which details events surrounding the high-profile conviction and imprisonment of Mississippi trial lawyer Dickie Scruggs.

However, Mr. Gates’ story inaccurately claims our movie was made in response to another movie about the American legal system. That is simply untrue, and if Mr. Gates had asked me about it, I would have informed him that we were unaware of that other movie until well into production of “InJustice the Film.”

Further, Mr. Gates’ story cites Vicki Slater, president-elect of the state’s trial lawyer association, as claiming our movie is “filled with inaccuracies.” Ms. Slater, however, provides no factual basis for her claim. If she doesn’t like our film, that’s fine. Differences of opinion, however, are much different than factual inaccuracies.

I believe our attention to detail and facts was a big reason our film won the 2011 Peer Award for Best Documentary. I urge your readers to formulate their own opinions by visiting www.InJusticetheFilm.com.
