Flood-exemption repeal passes House

Crisis has been averted for thousands of homeowners, lawmakers said, with Thursday’s passage of a bill to fix a law that could have gotten the state kicked out of the National Flood Insurance Program.

“This was a requirement by FEMA that had to be done,” Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said, “for all the residents throughout the state that need or are required to have flood insurance.”

The Senate on Thursday unanimously passed House Bill 773, which removes an exemption for hunting and fishing camps and farm structures from meeting floodplain regulations.
