DeSoto officials traveling to Washington

From rail lines affecting Horn Lake and Hernando to an FBI office in Southaven to airport tower cuts hitting Olive Branch, concerns on DeSoto’s radar will register in Washington as local officials meet with the state’s congressional delegation Thursday.

“We want to make sure the Grenada railroad stays — that’s the one that affects Hernando,” Mayor Chip Johnson said.

Departing today, he’s joining officials from other DeSoto cities, plus county supervisors and engineers and others, in making a federal case for local needs in the annual congressional briefing, also known as the “blue ribbon trip.”
