Clarion Ledger – Don’t rush charter schools, get it right
Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said Monday that he does not think the charter school proposal he supports is a panacea for improving education, but a “tool in the toolbox” to help give parents an option.
Charter schools can and should be another “tool” as part of an overall approach in education. But lawmakers must make sure that “tool” can be used to build and not tear down good school systems.
The Senate Education Committee on Tuesday approved a charter school bill being promoted by the lieutenant governor and Senate Republicans. It now moves toward a full Senate vote later this week.
