Partisan ghosts haunt Congress, says U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi
Drawing from Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., told a wintry tale of American economic meltdown if lessons of “the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future” don’t inspire faster, firmer action in Congress.
What’s at stake are “essential parts of our safety net” such as Social Security and Medicare, which form the foundation for local progress, Wicker told Monday’s annual membership gathering of the DeSoto County Economic Development Council.
“If we can do the things we need to do in Washington, DeSoto County can continue to make great strides,” Wicker said at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.
A journey with Christmas Past would show the Founding Fathers creating the Senate “to slow action to let passions cool, but we’ve taken slowing things down to an extreme in Washington.”
