Hosemann, Bryant weigh in on Tidelands issue
Though some Coast politicians are concerned newly elected upland state lawmakers and other officials could favor repurposing the Coast’s Tidelands money, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and Gov.-elect Phil Bryant said Wednesday they don’t support that.
Hosemann, whose office administers Tidelands money along with the Department of Marine Resources, said the collections might be a record this year — between $9 million and $10 million. He said his office has renegotiated some leases of tidelands properties and started collecting on some additional properties, which contributed to the increase.
Tidelands money is generated from proceeds of leases of areas covered and uncovered by the daily action of the tide.
