Ingalls Shipyard workforce earns praise from House committee chair
PASCAGOULA — The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee said he was pleased with the labor force at Mississippi’s largest manufacturing employer, and would fight against cuts there.
“You’re really impressed when you see what the men and women have turned out here,” Rep. Buck McKeon, R-Calif., said after touring Ingalls Shipyard on Wednesday. “When they start with a piece of steel and end up with a ship like this, it just makes you proud to see what people of America can do.”
McKeon was the guest of Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., who took the chairman through the shipyard to show him firsthand the development and production of warships for the surface Navy fleet, U.S.
Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps and foreign and commercial customers.
