Lt. Governor Phil Bryant’s statement on September tax receipts – up 2.99%

LT. GOVERNOR PHIL BRYANT RELEASES STATEMENT ON SEPTEMBER TAX COLLECTIONS

“September collections are 2.99 percent above the sine die estimate according to numbers released today by the Department of Revenue. While this is the third consecutive month where revenue has been above projections, the fact remains that we continue to face tough economic times here in Mississippi. With the State Economist predicting only a 0.7 percent economic growth in calendar year 2011 and state agencies requesting more than $1.3 billion in new spending, it is clear that we must control state expenses and prepare for an uncertain future. Our efforts to hold down spending are keeping us in better shape than most of America.”

At a Glance:

Sales Tax above 1.71% or +$2,512,671
Ind. Income Tax above 2.23% or +$3,122,035
Gaming Tax below 11.25% or -$1,382,890
Total General Fund above 2.99% or $12,345,798
(All numbers according to Sine Die FY 2012 Est.)
