Huckabee to speak at Personhood Mississippi event

Florida resident, one-time presidential hopeful and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will act as keynote speaker at an anti-abortion “Personhood” banquet in Jackson, Miss., on Sept. 8.

The “Personhood” initiative, which aims to define a person from the moment of conception, has become increasingly popular in the state. Critics argue that the passage of such an amendment could ban birth control or even lead to criminal prosecutions against women suffering miscarriages.

The “Personhood” movement has not yet made much headway in Florida, but in Mississippi, the movement has gained considerable steam. Mississippi Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, who is currently running for governor, fervently supports it — as does the American Family Association, which recently committed more than $100,000 to the initiative.
