Preparing for runoff, Dem foes up their visibility
Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls Johnny DuPree and Bill Luckett are traveling the state, trying to woo voters ahead of their second battle at the polls – the Aug. 23 primary runoff.
About 16,000 votes separated the two on Aug. 2, with DuPree in the lead in the four-man race but not far enough to avoid a runoff.
With less than two weeks until a Democratic nominee is decided, DuPree, 57, and Luckett, 63, say they are doing all they can to win the opportunity to face Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, the Republican nominee, in the Nov. 8 general election.
That includes big pushes to sway voters in areas where they weren’t so successful last week.
