CRISP – Redistricting and elections

Redistricting and elections

A lot of people are waiting to see who will claim control of the House when the Legislature returns to the Capitol in January. Looking at the numbers and the serious races for November, it’s virtually a toss up. Either could claim a majority and, thus, have the pull in the House speaker’s race.

But if elections are held a second time, that could give the other party a rare opportunity to make gains and come out on top the next year, rather than waiting to try again in four.

It will still be an uphill climb, particularly depending on how the districts are drawn (the majority in January likely would draw the lines to their favor). But to have an opportunity to claim control just a year later is at least a chance of a change up.
