4 ag commissioner hopefuls recount experience at fair
PHILADELPHIA – With less than a week until the statewide primary, stump speeches at one of Mississippi’s biggest political events took off Wednesday, with candidates for attorney general and agriculture commissioner taking the Neshoba County Fair stage.
Four candidates vying to replace retiring Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Lester Spell addressed the crowd.
Republican candidate Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith appeared to have the most supporters in the pavilion.
She stressed her record chairing the Senate Agriculture Committee and as a cattle farmer.
“I am in the mix,” she said. “I haven’t been on the sidelines waiting to go into the game, I’ve been on the pitcher’s mound.”
