Democratic candidates debate on campus
This year’s race for Mississippi governor will make a stop at Ole Miss next week as Democratic candidates Bill Luckett and Johhny DuPree participate in a debate at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, in the Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics.
The debate will host two of the four Democratic candidates for governor. Luckett, a Clarksdale businessman and attorney, and DuPree, the mayor of Hattiesburg, will be on campus while Bill Compton Jr., a teacher from Meridian, and Guy Shaw, a retired tax asessor from Yalobusha County, are not attending. Lucket and DuPree are considered the front runners for the Democratic nominee.
The primary will be held Aug. 2.
