Mississippi politicians gear up for summer primaries
Republican state Sen. Doug Davis of Hernando, arguably DeSoto County’s highest-profile state legislator, is drawing opposition from within his own party as candidates gear up for this summer’s primary races and the fall’s general election.
Davis headed the Senate Appropriations Committee, which essentially writes the state budget, during the past legislative session after former chairman Alan Nunnelly of Tupelo was elected to Congress.
Homebuilder Chris Massey of Nesbit filed qualifying papers on Wednesday, the deadline for candidates to file with their respective parties for state legislative races, to allow him to run against Davis in the 1st District.
