This morning, Billy McCoy confirmed what YallPolitics has been saying for months . . . he will not run for his House seat again and will not be Speaker of the Mississippi House in 2012.
While I think this is a good thing for Mississippi, I don’t take away from the fact that McCoy is a good man who honorably served Mississippi. I don’t agree with his policy and even more strenously object to his leadership tactics. However, I certainly wish him the best in whatever life may hold for him.
Talk will inevitably now shift to who takes his place. I still think the conversation will center on “who will Representatives vote for” for Speaker in the 2011 election cycle. “I don’t knows” won’t do. Candidates must be put in a position to pick a candidate or at least a party because it is the most important vote they will make.
