Gov. Haley Barbour OKs ‘Penny For Your Parks’
Gov. Haley Barbour has signed Southaven’s “Penny For Your Parks” bill into law, and next week city officials plan to set an election date to once again ask voters to go to the polls on the 1-cent tourism tax.
Southaven Mayor Greg Davis said at Tuesday’s board of aldermen meeting he plans to ask the board to pass a resolution to set the election date for July 19.
This will be the second local referendum on the 1-cent sales tax increase. Last October, 69 percent of Southaven residents voted in favor of the 1-cent tax that will allow the city to levy the tax onto restaurant tabs.
