CL – Jim Hood right to hold BP’s feet to the fire
As The Clarion-Ledger’s report “BP Oil Spill: One Year Later” this week showed, much remains to be done after one year since the DeepWater Horizon exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 workers.
As Washington bureau writer Deborah Barfield Berry outlined, more than 150 bills were filed in Congress, more than 60 hearings were held, but despite having gushed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf, Congress has yet to adopt any major oil spill legislation.
Moreover, the seafood industry is still reeling, with the state’s shrimp haul off as much as 75 percent, consumer confidence in a slump, despite extensive testing giving Gulf seafood a clean bill of health, and good fishing is back to normal.
