NUNNELEE: It’s Wrong to Play Politics With Funding Our Troops

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 8, 2011

We must allow our military to focus on their mission while we focus on ours, to cut spending

(Washington, D.C.) – Today Congressman Nunnelee (R-Miss) gave the following statement on the House floor in support of the Department of Defense and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 (Troop Funding Bill) which is currently the only proposal to keep the government open and will fund our troops through the end of FY 2011. The measure includes an additional $12 billion in cuts and will keep the government running through April 15.
“We are engaged in a budget battle for the future of our country. But, we have the freedom to engage in that battle because of the brave men and women that have their lives on the line fighting for that freedom.
“Have we forgotten? Only 10 years ago there are those who would have destroyed this very building and disrupted these proceedings by an act of terror, and we have men and women today fighting to make sure that those acts of terror are never repeated.
“That’s their mission, and it’s unconscionable that we would send men and women into harm’s way and not fund their efforts.
“That’s why we need to pass this bill because if we do, we will have the liberty to pursue our mission while our men and women in uniform have the liberty to pursue theirs.”
