Audit clears Madison officials
Madison County officials say a Mississippi Department of Audit report released Thursday clears the county of any lingering questions over its payment of engineering contracts worth millions of dollars.
“After a long, tedious, very intense investigation, this shows we’re doing a lot of things right,” Board of Supervisors President Tim Johnson said.
A four-page letter from State Auditor Stacey Pickering concludes the department’s year-long performance review of the county’s road projects with engineer Rudy Warnock by looking at the financial analysis of his contracts, specifically related to Reunion Parkway. In October, Pickering released a 75-page report pointing out the county needed to strengthen oversight and internal controls of its engineering contracts to eliminate allegations of wrongdoing.
