CL – MDA keeps State plane busy

Mississippi Development Authority leaders made 34 trips on the state plane last year – more than any state official other than the governor.

They met with potential clients in New York, Atlanta, Houston and Colorado Springs, Colo.

They took Israel’s consul general to the Southeastern U.S. Opher Aviran and other Israeli officials to Columbus to tour an Israeli-owned factory there, attended project meetings across the state and took business owners to visit potential sites from Olive Branch to Gulfport.

In all, they racked up $83,715 in aircraft charges in a year.

Neither the MDA officials nor any state official has been accused of wrongdoing. The Clarion-Ledger requested the documents as a routine check of state aircraft usage.
