Schools told to get honest about grades

School districts that allow or require teachers to artificially inflate failing grades would be required by law to spell out that policy in writing under a bill that passed the Mississippi House Wednesday.

Rep. John Moore, R-Brandon, who pushed the measure on the floor, said teachers are being asked to “falsify grades” and “commit fraud” by school district administrators who are unwilling to put their policies in black and white.

Since August, the Board of Education has required schools with minimum grading policies to put them in writing, though state officials said they were not aware if school districts had since acted.
