Miss. House OKs tougher anti-cruelty measures

The Mississippi House on Monday overwhelmingly approved legislation to strengthen the state’s animal cruelty laws and sent the measure back to the Senate, which has already acted in favor of tougher measures.

Senate Bill 2821 as passed the House would create an offense of aggravated cruelty if an individual, with malice, intentionally tortures, mutilates, maims, burns, starves or disfigures any domesticated dog or cat.

The vote was 119 in favor and 3 against.
