Lawmaker: ‘We’re not going to rush’ redistricting maps

JACKSON — A ranking Senate Democrat who’s helping redraw Mississippi’s legislative districts says those fearing politics and gerrymandering should be “relieved and pleasantly surprised” when maps are released to the public and rank-and-file lawmakers sometime this week or early next.

“From what I hear, I think both the House and Senate are trying to be fair to Democrats, fair to Republicans, and more importantly fair to the 3 million people of this state,” said Sen. Hob Bryan, D-Amory, a member of the Senate redistricting committee. “Everyone has been concerned with war, but I’m not hearing reports of troop movements, and the satellite images don’t show any suspicious troop movements.”
