Headline of the week – [Hattiesburg] Officials issue an apology for odor

As press releases go, the one sent out late Friday afternoon by Hattiesburg city officials didn’t have a lot of new information.

The release, though, did include an apology from Mayor Johnny DuPree and the city council for not responding more quickly to the lingering odor problem that has left many residents and businesses on the city’s eastern side gagging.

And it promised that officials are working toward a solution.

“We are confident that we can identify and eliminate the source or sources of the odor problem and are taking steps to correct it as soon as possible,” the officials stated in the release.
