Trent Lott tells POLITICO he’s leaning towards Mitt Romney
Former Senate GOP Leader Trent Lott is inclined to support a prominent governor for the GOP nomination, but it’s not the one in his own state that he’s known for decades.
Lott told me this week that he’s leaning toward Mitt Romney.
“I want a businessman who has a good chance to win,” said the Mississippian. “And I think he has the best chance in the general election.”
Lott, who is now a Washington-based lobbyist but still has a home in Mississippi, had little to say about another likely Republican contender, Haley Barbour, except to acknowledge that he’s been “a good governor.”
