The state Senate Education Committee killed a bill Thursday that could have cost DeSoto County Schools $2.7 million in Chickasaw Cession funds.
The proposal would have stripped Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann from oversight on 16th Section land leases.
In a previous interview from his Jackson office, Hosemann said his office has acted like a watchdog in policing what amounts to several sweetheart 16th Section land leases.
