SALTER – GOP leapfrogs Dems?

GOP leapfrogs Dems?

In Mississippi, the GOP elephant has been swaggering of late.

Flush with victory after the 2010 midterm congressional elections, the Mississippi Republican Party unseated two incumbent Democrats to claim three of the state’s four U.S. House seats and has since 1989 held both of the state’s U.S. Senate seats.

In statewide elected offices, the Republicans hold seven of eight positions with only one Democrat – Attorney General Jim Hood – seeking re-election in 2011. Two Democrats have qualified to seek the open seat for Mississippi’s governor and will join Hood on the Democratic statewide ballot.
